Abstract
Since the early 1970s when the Korean Academy of Psychotherapists (KAP) was founded, the aims and activities of KAP has been to assimilate Western psychoanalysis and psychotherapy on the basis of traditional Eastern Tao (Confucianism, Buddhism, Lao -tzu, and Chuang-tzu), the ultimate form of psychotherapy. KAP will also continue to unify and integrate both disciplines and endeavor to promote psychotherapy in Korea and in the international academic community.
The purpose of this paper is to outline at proposal for a psychotherapy training program in KAP. According to this proposal, the training program will be categorically composed of 1) personal psychotherapy or training analysis, 2) psychotherapy supervision, and 3) academic courses. Full courses will range 4.5-5 years. In the academic courses, two kinds of studies are required ; theory and. practice of Western psychotherapy and principle and practice of Eastern Tao. The objective is to integrate both forms of psychotherapies. Finally, the author maintains that KAP will make a completion of the training program after serious discussion of any problems that might be encountered in the practical operation of the program.
